Anatolia was on some of the very important trade routes. Along these trade routes were caravanserais, spaced by one day's worth of camel travel.
In Sultanhanı is a stunning Seljuk caravanserai. It was built in 1229 under the Seljuk sultan Alaattin Keykubad I. After a fire in 1278 it was rebuilt to the largest caravanserais in Turkey.
It has an open courtyard, used in the summer, and a covered courtyard, used in winter.
